The guys that gave us the efficient YAC cleaning and optimization utility, now gives us a VPN client that can be used to surf the web in safety and privacy – the aptly named YAC VPN. It provides all the functionality you would expect from an application of this type: connect to VPN servers from around the world, surf the web on an encrypted connection, hide your real IP address and replace it with one from another country (and thus bypass location restrictions).

A good looking and very simple setup wizard will help you install YAC VPN on your Windows PC. The only setting this setup wizard lets you access is the option to pick a custom installation location.; you can choose to install YAC VPN to a custom location, but you can’t access any other settings. I bring this up because YAC VPN will automatically pin itself to the Start Menu and to the taskbar; but the setup wizard doesn’t let you choose if you want YAC VPN to do that or not.

The aforementioned setup wizard provides support for multiple languages: English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Turkish. YAC VPN’s interface provides support for the same languages. Click the cog icon from the top right hand side to switch from one language to another. No matter what language you choose, one thing remains unchanged: YAC VPN’s interface is very, very easy to use.

At the top there’s a large round button that you can use to connect to a VPN server. Underneath it there’s a dropdown menu that lets you pick the server you want to connect to (you can connect to servers location in the US, Netherlands, and Singapore). And down at the bottom there’s a section that provides real-time info about your internet traffic (upload and download speed).

Using YAC VPN is an incredibly straightforward matter: launch the application, click ON to connect to a VPN server, wait for the connection to be established, start surfing the web safe in the knowledge that you’re doing so on an encrypted connection and with your real IP address hidden out of sight.

A word of warning: don’t use YAC VPN with BitTorrent or some other P2P file-sharing client. This will result in getting your account blocked. And speaking about accounts, you will have to purchase a VIP service to get rid of the following trial limitations: nag screen at startup, 200MB of traffic, disconnected every 20 minutes.

When you launch the YAC VPN trial, a nag screen will show up and ask you if you want to buy a VIP service, activate your copy, or use the trial. Once your 200MB of traffic runs out, the nag screen will no longer display the option to use the trial. While using the trial, a timer will start counting down from 20 minutes once you’ve established a connection with a VPN server. When the timer runs out, you will be disconnected.

Bypass location restrictions, block trackers, surf on an encrypted connection, browse the web safely and anonymously. That’s what you can expect from YAC VPN.

Pros

It’s quite easy to install YAC VPN on a Windows PC. The interface provides support for multiple languages; you will very quickly figure out the interface. Connect to VPN servers from around the world and surf the web safely and anonymously. Several VIP pricing options are availalble.

Cons

Pins itself to the Start menu and to the taskbar without asking. Your account will be blocked if you use a P2P file-sharing client such as BitTorrent. Trial limitations: nag screen, 200MB traffic limit, 20-minute session limit.
